Professor, Sir Christopher Pissarides

A Nobel laureate for Economics (2010) specialising in macroeconomic policy and the economics of labour markets, Professor Pissarides is the Chairman of the Council of National Economy of the Republic of Cyprus, the Professor of European Studies at the University of Cyprus and the Regius Professor of Economics at the London School of Economics. He was educated at the University of Essex and the London School of Economics (LSE), and he spent the bulk of his career at the LSE.

Professor Pissarides acted as the external member of the Monetary Policy Committee of the Central Bank of Cyprus, which brought the euro to Cyprus. He has served as the President of the European Economic Association and is a consultant for the European Commission, the World Bank and the OECD on matters related to employment and macroeconomic policy. He is a recipient of the Grand Cross of the Republic of Cyprus, the highest honour of the Republic and has been knighted by Queen Elizabeth II.
